Strategy session to oppose the implementation of the REAL ID in Rhode Island

Monday, November 14, 5pm
Office of English for Action, Atlantic Mills, Right Tower, 122 Manton Avenue, Room 604, Providence
For directions, please call 421-3181

The REAL ID Act was passed in May, 2005, and will not only have a severely negative impact on immigrant communities across the country, but also on many other communities of people.

One community that will be affected, if this bill is not amended or repealed, is the transgender community. The National Center for Transgender Equality has published a statement called "The Real ID Act: Bad Law for Our Community" - which outlines how the act will create problems for transgender people trying to aquire identification that corresponds with their gender identity, as well ! ! as how the act will make it more difficult for transgendered people seeking asylum. (This statement can be read at: http://www.nctequality.org/realid.pdf .)

Please join us in the meeting this coming Monday, to learn more about the REAL ID Act and to create a joint strategy for amending or repealing it. For more info, please contact Olivia Geiger at oliviageiger@gmail.com or call (401) 421-3181
