Project Empower 2 Day HIV+ Relationship Workshop

Project Empower is pleased to announce that we still have some remaining slots for " Healthy Relationships" a special two-day program designed exclusively for HIV positive gay and bisexual men. This small group-level program - typically 10-12 men - will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 15-16 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Developed by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Healthy Relationships aims to address some of the unique issues that face gay and bisexual men who are living with HIV disease such as the stressors associated with disclosing their status to family, friends and sexual partners, and negotiating and adopting safer sex practices.

According to its researchers, Healthy Relationships is not a disclosure intervention; the skills that are developed are decision-making and problem-solving skills that will enable the participants to make informed and safe decisions about disclosure and behaviors. They add that the program is ideally suitable for men who are newly diagnosed since disclosing one's status can feel like an overwhelming, stressful act, however this powerful program is sure to benefit any gay or bisexual HIV positive man.

Additionally, the sessions are not classes, lectures or forums; they are interactive with both educational and entertaining aspects. By design, the program is co-facilitated by a peer HIV positive gay male and a mental health counselor, due the sensitive nature of the program content.

Healthy Relationships will be held at Community Counseling of Bristol County in Taunton, Mass. It will be limited to 10-12 men, so please contact us as soon as possible to reserve your space. This program is free and will include morning snacks and lunch. To register, or for more information, please contact us at 508-828-6692 or email projectempower@comcounseling.org.
